New instruments for the digital era challenge

New instruments for the digital era challenge

The creative industry of Europe, the culture, music, image, should fully use the tools that the EU makes available to meet the challenges of the digital age. This is the invitation launched by Neelie Kroes, Commissioner responsible for digital strategy of the European Union.

The Kroes, liberal, Dutch, former head of EU competition policy, explained that her work will be centered on the need for the creative industries and especially music, to enter fully into the digital age and to learn to benefit from the European dimension.

“The Single Market – Kroes said – is a crucial opportunity for the EU and I want to convince the music industry to do everything necessary to use them.” The Commissioner believes that the European creative community should continue to get close with the new information and communication technologies, which “are not in any way a phenomenon of culture that the world must feel like imposed. On the contrary, they are something that the world of culture can adapt to their needs. ”

In this view, “the European Digital Agenda is a tool for the creative industries to participate in this movement – supports Kroes -. Creating, disseminating or appreciating a work of art, we all have some responsibility and a role in the manner in which our European culture interactes with the digital world. ”
