Horizon 2020. Europe for research and innovation

One of the great challenges that Europe will be facing during the next future is innovative research, meant as the start up of processes of effective integration of universities, research centres, education and training, territories and enterprises. This overall context will be the core of the Framework Programme Horizon 2020, that will develop itself between 2014 and 2020. Successor to the 7th Framework Programme, that will end in 2012 with the last calls. The structure of the new Programme is characterized by three main objectives: 1) strengthen Europe’s role at global level in advanced scientific research with a funding of 24,6 billions euro; 2) guarantee the leadership of the european innovation industry with a funding of 17,9 billions euro; 3) tackle the most significant issues on the european agenda like health, demographic trends and well-being, food safety, renewable energies. A panel including a specific focus on innovative, safe societies, mutually supporting each other, that could furtherly develop the commitment in the social sciences field already included in the 7th Framework Programme. An amazing opportunity for all those involved in the different fields of research, also humanistic, taking into account from the beginning the value of potential strategic networks. 2014 is approaching very fast and the right attitude is to focus the activities in a medium long-term perspective. Therefore, research structures should be characterized by a strong attitude to application on the field. Key words are: research, innovation, european cooperation among researchers, strong links between research and enterprises. .
